There's something wrong with the new rating system they've put into the game it seems.
Serennia (apparently a celebrity; the best warrior in the world whom no one likes) blew a fuse over it.
Apparently people can get ~2900 personal rating in a couple of hundred matches just by queueing up and running around attempting to kill stuff.
Or rather, could - since the Arenas are now offline.

Without having read anything, just by personal experience I think the problems are the following:
1. At the end of a match the winning team always gets awarded more rating than the defeated team is losing. Ie you gain 10, they lose 3. Which can get your rating up quite fast, obviously.
2. The active people within the arena team don't gain the same rating anymore. I got no idea how it's currently calculated, but people can be above and below the team rating, even when playing all games.
This might partly be "working as intended" though, I've got no clue.

Earlier this week the Arenas were temporarily disabled while we investigated rating calculation discrepancies. After thorough research, we have identified and created a solution to the issue, and we will be bringing the Arenas back online following off hours maintenance with the fix in place. Please be aware that because the rating issues were extensive, we have decided to reset Arena team and personal ratings to last week’s status. In addition, items and achievements which were gained illegitimately with incorrect ratings will be removed, and the spent arena points refunded. We thank you for your patience while we worked through these issues related to the Arenas.
