MMORPG sub numbers

Post by Versus »

A new site tracking it some interesting info with WoW top dog by far but halted a few months around 9 mil subs. Someone killed off all the jedis in swg it seemed and Toontown Online beats that silly camelot game.

Not sure if those WoW figures are accurate - seems like they couldn't get any data and just entered the last probed figure?

Otherwise it should've fired off huge alarm bells at Blizz - from explosive growth to a stall and all.

Would be cool to see WoW retail and expansion in comparison to each other.

Well it's hard to see it accurately in the plot but it seems like from December till the stalling point, which seems to be around... february?
Beginning of BC raiding?

It seems to be +1 million subscriptions and then flattens out.
Doubt Blizzard or Vivendi would release such figures - esp if they flatten out so how do they get their numbers for this chart?

Probably press releases, interviews and the occational official release (and "from the hip"-math from the games that show the server population). It's always guesswork and always has been. But it's normally a good pointer over longer periods of time.

that stall is overlapping with the US post about shamans and thus cancelling their account
