Starcraft 2
about the new race, well, they cant really just release a game with the same races and a few new units. then it would be more of a re-release or an expansion, only with better graphics. they always need some huge difference if they want it to sell like the old one. aslong as they can manage the balance i think it rocks .
a problem with wc3 balance imo was that the game balance felt like it was adjusted after the pro leagues even though 99% of all players aint pro's. but i guess thats what they have to do, same as WoW is all about flasks and pots etc atm.
anyway, ME WANT SC2!!

Several reason:f if.
Have no clue why Starcraft became the bomb.
Did it have such good broadcasting mechanisms or did a handful of the, what, 19 million South Koreans that play the game develop a proxy for that?
1. The balance was damn near perfect. Not bullshitting you, balance in the original starcraft was 99% perfect.
2. It had the typical Blizzard touch, which sells 5 million copies by it's own.
3. It was the first RTS to really offer 3 completely different races, instead of just swapping out 90% of the units like the competition did. Which started the whole 'multi-race' buzz.
4. Because it was a damn good game - and it still is.
As i said before - Starcraft was the brainchild of Bill Roper, who left Blizzard even before WC3 got released. As far as i know he departed with a bunch of other Blizzard talent and founded Flagship studios (Hellgate London) - and worked as a consultant on the piece of shit RTS aspect of Black and White 2. Don't think you'll find much interviews of him 'voicing' his opinion, as Blizzard developers are known to be pretty silent
That's not counting the EQ trash that's now in charge of WoW's raiding design.
I'm pretty sure Blizzard still has enough talent left to pull off another awesome RTS - but i very much doubt they'll succeed in creating 'another' Starcraft without Roper. Giving him too much credit? Maybe. I might be wrong ofcourse, but seeing how Rob Pardo handled Warcraft 3 - it doesn't give me much hope. But that's another discussion
Roses are red. Violets are blue. In soviet Russia, poem writes you.
The fact that WC3's balance feels kinda iffy resulted in it never getting a decent 'pro' scene tbh. Still think this game was made for singleplayer, as while the multiplayer was decent - it got old real soon.a problem with wc3 balance imo was that the game balance felt like it was adjusted after the pro leagues even though 99% of all players aint pro's. but i guess thats what they have to do, same as WoW is all about flasks and pots etc atm.

the wc3 pros had some sick micro, although many of them was either former sc pros or people that ALMOST made it sc prosKibs wrote:The fact that WC3's balance feels kinda iffy resulted in it never getting a decent 'pro' scene tbh. as i completely loved wc3 with over 4k games (1v1) i liked it in the end better than sc so i dont really understand what you mean about this :pKibs wrote: but seeing how Rob Pardo handled Warcraft 3 - it doesn't give me much hope. But that's another discussion

(dont forget ) in the end :p )
1. You could create semi-unique cd keys for the game and the expancion by filling in random numbers, and just changing the last digit.. (always worked!)sneek wrote:Have no clue why Starcraft became the bomb.
2. You could easily dl/copy an SC game, and still be able to play online..
3. It was REALLY made for multiplayer, unlike most rts games..
4. It was a good game.. (diverse yet balanced)
PWN!
Yet it still sold 9.5 million copies :pagrabush wrote:1. You could create semi-unique cd keys for the game and the expancion by filling in random numbers, and just changing the last digit.. (always worked!)sneek wrote:Have no clue why Starcraft became the bomb.

So the Protoss get a unique one-unit only, a Mothership, that has a huge energy beam that absolutely destroys anything underneath the Mothership.
And Terran get commando-esque powerarmor dudes that can jetjump over obstacles.
Protoss Mothership can create a Rif.. Black Hole that'll essentially suck everything in destroying it.
Hmmmmmm.
"The genre defining series is back", oh no wait.
Screens look bloody impressive though.
Looks like they don't go overboard and are just scoping out how a handful additions to Starcraft'll work out - "nothing is final yet!".

Yeah Versus, that's kinda the point.
And Sneek, since the braintrust left blizzard I don't think they have it in them to innovate any more.
They can still crank out amazingly polished products, just not push the boundaries.
But all in all i still look forward to playing this game.
