From what i read on the us forums most servers there are bugged and nothing is spawning at the invasion sites and if it its spawning so many guilds are over it nothing is alive :P.
Read also it last about a month though anyway.

think something needs to trigger the event first? the AQ opening needed the materials gathered...

haveing an event starting from patchday seems unlikely. even if it is a monthlong.
