Both articles are interesting at least to read.
Can understand the bullshit call when it comes to Halo 2 and "it needs DX10/Vista".

Kinda upsetting how they pull the same stunt with Mass Effect.
That's to be released strictly on 360 too right?

Mass Effect = Bioware, Microsoft is just publishing that for x360. It's extremely likely that a PC port will appear, judging from Bioware's past (including the excellent Jade Empire finally getting a pc release). Don't expect a Playstation3 port though.

Oldschool pc gaming is kind of dying at the moment, piracy is kinda rocking the singleplayer market - combined with Blizzard's cashcow influencing publishers to constantly pump out subscription-based games. Prepare to see a lot of old pc developers (ID soft / Epic come to mind) making the jump to console just because releasing a pc game these days is pretty risky.

Concerning that article:
Microsoft is a conflicted company when it comes to games, and the threats to the dominance of the PC from the likes of Apple and Linux are minor and far-off compared to the uphill struggle the firm faces in the console market against the firmly entrenched Sony. If it comes down to it, any decision which calls for Microsoft to choose between the Xbox and Windows will always be made in favour of the Xbox - at least for the foreseeable future.
Complete and utter BS. The only market where Sony isn't completely failing at the moment is Japan, and even there they get outsold by like 50% by the Wii (not even bothering to bring up the PSP vs NDS story).
Feb 2007 North American sales:
Nintendo DS 485,000
Wii 335,000
PlayStation 2 295,000
Xbox 360 228,000
PlayStation Portable 176,000
Game Boy Advance 136,000
PlayStation 3 127,000
GameCube 24,000
Xbox 480
Yep ... Totally getting their asses kicked by sony :p It's also scary to see the monster sales on the DS, don't think anyone could've guessed the legs on that thing.

Yet you're defending final fantasy :P The production value & talent spent on Blue Dragon is absolutely insane. Just look at the names of the people that worked on it, it's kind of an jrpg-allstar-team :p

For reference:
Staff:
- Produced, written, designed and supervised by Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger)
- Character designs by Akira Toriyama (DBZ, Chrono Trigger)
- Music composed by Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantay)
- Directed by Takuya Matsumoto (Nights, Blinx)
- World designed by Manabu Kusunoki (Panzer Dragoon)
- CG Cinematics by Robot (Onimusha, Grandia 3)
DROOL :o

That's why I find way hyped. Whenever the game itself is being talked about it is in the terms of the people behind it. I don't deny the fact that the staff is highly talented (especially Nobuo Uematsu <3) but when a game is fronted more on the producers rather than its own merits it has me instantly going into "overhype-alert"mode (Think daikatana :p ). Until I see hard reviews singing it's praise (that might not even do it, I find Gears of War to be a pretty mediocre game for example) or prefferably I try it myself I will stay skeptical.
And I defend the FF-series as it is a string of games that has yet to dissapoint me (found the character design in #9 crappy and haven't tried the handheld versions) and has delivered time and time again. I'm not trying to sound it off as the be-all-end-all of games, it's just my opinion is all. :P

I think you're missing the point, what's the total sales of all the 3 new gen consoles? 15 million or so. That means that there is about 6 times that number of PS2's in circulation. I mean come on, PS2 is still outselling x360 by a nice margin, add PSP and PS3 and Microsoft is indeed fighting an upphill battle to take the throne. (Nintendo standing by itself in this argument, fantastic sales number atm, mighty impressive.)
Is microsoft closing the gap? Nope, not yet. It is in the lead for next gen compared to sony, but until the shift happens where current gen consoles are off the salescharts that is a moot point.

However, has microsoft the possibility of taking the lead this comming generation? Absolutely. Sony has a bunch of media blunders under its belt. The xbox is nicely priced and has a host of games for it. But the real battle hasn't really started yet.

Edit: Not entirely sure about sales for nextgen systems in total and can't be arsed to find out, so lets put them at 25million units sold instead as a safety measure. That still puts ps2 at around 4.5x that number.
