us boards.. some fellah wrote:I'm not going to read this entire massive thread...but after hearing mixed reviews from many people on the PTRS I tried it myself.
I found a mage and asked him to let me test fear on him. First thing I tried was putting CoA, corruption, siphon life and immolate on him and then fearing him to see how long it would take the DOT damage to break. It took about 8-10 seconds and he was almost dead.
I did the same thing again and this time I did drain life as soon as I cast fear. He took about 20 damage ticks before losing the duel and fear never broke.
Next I tried to fear him and then cast immolate. The first and second immolates did not break the fear. The third one crit him for 980 dmg and broke fear.
Next I tried to fear him and cast shadow bolts at him. Every single time my shadow bolt immediately broke the fear (1500-1600 non crits).
Next I tried to fear him and cast rank 1 shadow bolts (20-30 dmg). This damage NEVER broke the fear early. I had the same results with my pet and with my wand (was funny that the wand proc'd his blazing speed talent).
My conclusion is that affliction is fine. It was ridiculous that I could hit a feared person with a 1600 shadow bolt and not break the fear. I am glad to see that I can still cast immolate and not break fear 100% of the time. Crits should never have mattered, just raw damage done.
If you want to nerf warlocks, nerf nether protection because it's just as OP as CLoS if you ask me. This fear nerf is compeltely fair and acceptable in my honest opinion.
