Blizzard Conference in Stockholm

Post by Maugetar »

So, me, ark, betdel and lateralus set out this twelveth of september to stockholm to see the blizzard conference (branch ppl only!) hoping to get some new and usefull information about the Burning Crusade. We arrived at the location (Cinema Skandia for those who know where that is in stockholm) 12.05 after more than a 5 hour drive. The conference was supposed to start at 12.00, but of course the event was a bit off schedule, so we had to wait for another 30 minutes before entering the cinema. We were offered some refreshments (popcorn and sodas :) ) while waiting. We stepped in and took a seat in the middle of the cinemahall, a very nice one i might add. On stage the senior vice president of Blizzard started his presentation after a short introduction from a Vivendi Games personnel.
The information we heard for the next 2 hours was in majority know already to most of us. What we didnt know before, was the things we saw :). The screen was huge ofc but the graphics and resolution wasnt in anyway compromised by that. Its safe to say that they had some high tech shit showing the game off.
Anyways, they showed alot of from outlands, bloodelves and dranei cities, ALOT of diffrent instances like Karazhan ofc, Hellfire Citadel, Tempest Keep, some Naga stuff and new species like the Auchindoun, a birdlike creature that looked very cool btw. Perhaps the most impressive milieu (even tho EVERYTHING looked amazing) was Sporeggar. A HUGE mushroom country. The mushrooms was bigger than anything i can remember in the WoW environment. Beautiful colors and lighting. I got the urge to get up there on the stage and run around for myself for a couple of hours...
After drooling for an hour or two, and alot of new visuall impressions later, a short Q&A session took place. The usuall questions arose. From 40 to 25 man raids for instance, the senior vice president didnt really have any good answer to that question as he somewhat tried to avoid it by refering to the lead designers and that he didnt know everything about the game. He did say tho that blizzard wanted more focus on individuall performance rather than having one or two in the raid slacking and still pulling hard encounters off, which stroke me as kinda odd, because as a spectator commented on, isnt a very viable reason. As both AQT and Naxx demands total focus from everybody.
Arkandor asked if there was anything that they hadnt reveled about the expansion yet, specificly more information about Hero Classes. He said that, they were pretty much finished with all the content of the expansion, but that there was of course things that was still up for disscussion. He didnt give much hope about Hero Classes tho, we all got the feeling that that was something way waaay in the future.
There was a question if there where any improvements coming for the actuall community in-game and if the social structure in anyway could be improved by some changes. He stood quiet for sometime and thought about it. He said that those things should be mostly left out by blizzard, and that social structures is something that guild in them selfs should figure out. He did say that making it easier for guildleaders to maintain the infrastructure is always something they are considering, a possible guildbank could be seen in the future. And the step from 40 to 25 raids could make it a bit easier not having to recruit ppl on a regular basis.
In the end the question came up when we can expect BC to come out. He said that it will come out when its ready... And that their goal was within this year. We couldnt help feeling that he laid alot of weight on the "goal" part. And knowing blizzard as most of us do, we all said to each other.. "ok, not this year then".

And that pretty much sums it up. It was a short, but pleasant trip to both stockholm and blizzard virtual world.

Remember, remember, the 6th of December,
The patch day treason and plot.
I see no reason, for BT and Cleavin',
Since Tseric wants us to spec Prot.

Indeed I took a few pics with my cellphone camera. The Cinema hall was a bit too dark to get quality photos. Will post them as soon as I get my broadband connection @ home.
